Pati Beachley is a non-binary sculptor living in Pittsburgh. She holds an MFA in Sculpture from Virginia Commonwealth University and a BA from University of Maryland-College Park. Originally from Baltimore, she serves as Chair of the Art & Design Department and Professor of Art at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, PA.
Statement: The rope castings extend her investigation in fiber and text. The chosen, often gendered, words complicate meaning or contain multiple meanings. Coated with lipstick finishes, they index a physical connection to mouth, to parole. The work, Liar, was made during the Cavanaugh hearings.
